Karin

Karin Matz is an architect and Adjunct Lecturer in Architecture at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. She runs her own practice, Karin Matz Arkitekt, and was previously co-founder of the office Secretary.

She has worked with housing at several scales—from the renovation of individual houses and apartments to larger residential blocks and research-based studies of housing architecture. Drawing is a central tool in her work, both in practice and in teaching.

Many projects take their point of departure in the already built and in the spaces of everyday life. Through drawing, testing and building on what exists, she explores how architecture can develop without starting from scratch—solutions that are feasible, yet also allow for generosity, playfulness and a certain degree of friction.
